Tova Katzman, a senior at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and Gold Key winner in the 2011 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards, was the first to display in a slew of art shows, held at Featherstone Center for the Arts, featuring Island art students.
At her opening reception this past Sunday, March 6, Tova sold six pieces. Her show will hang through March 11, and is followed by a dual show featuring seniors Benjamin Ciciora and Collette Jordan. Benjamin is frequently seen in the Sports section of The Times playing baseball and basketball. A member of the art club, he is a functional potter, and hopes to minor in ceramics in college.
Collette will show ten portraits of her closest friends in high school. She created them while taking an independent study with art teacher Janice Frame. After photographing them herself, she created the portraits with graphite and charcoal.
Benjamin’s and Collette’s opening reception is this Sunday, March 13, from 4 to 6 pm, at Featherstone. Their show will be hung through March 18, and open Monday through Friday from 12 noon to 4 pm. For more information, call 508-693-1850 or visit featherstoneart.org.
