Heat roast Bulls in RCBL finals opening round

The Heat won the opening round of the three-game RCBL final series, Monday evening at the Boys & Girls Club in Edgartown, besting the Bulls, 97-86.

The Heat, which finished the five-month season in first place, ran out to a huge early lead and never let the Bulls closer than five points. The defending champion Heat played a patient half-court game looking like a team that had been there before.

The Bulls were held to nine points in the first quarter while the Heat posted 24. The lead grew to 36-18 three minutes into the second period. The Bulls chipped away at the lead and trailed 44-39 at the break.

Jason Dyer had the game high 26 points for the Heat, including six treys. Tim Scott posted 20 with three from beyond the arch. Matt Rivers added 21 and Clark Agnew 10. Both were beasts in the paint.

The Bulls Asil Cash (28), Brant Silvia (17), James Rolston (16) and Damon Mello (11) scored in double figures. Ronnie Miske had significant playing time and added six to the Bulls’ total

Pat Mercier and Richie Roy wore the striped shirts.

The second game in the best two of three finals will tip off Monday at 6:30 pm.
