Barbara E. (Pignati) Cassiani, 67, of Oak Bluffs and formerly of Barnstable, died on Tuesday, April 5, in Cambridge after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Richard Cassiani.
Born in Floral Park, New York, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Violet (Bregartner) Pignati.
She graduated from H. Frank Carey High School in New York and UMass Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She worked for the Barnstable Public School System as an assistant librarian until her retirement in 2001. After her retirement she worked part-time as librarian in the Oak Bluffs Public Library.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, traveling, knitting, sewing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Besides her husband of 21 years, she is survived by her daughters, Darre Halloran of Quincy and Erica Bennett of Whitman, her stepsons, Michael Cassiani of Vineyard Haven and Dennis Cassiani of Weymouth, and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Darre Mattie of Washington State, Christine Mills, and Gail Duchamp both of N.J., and many nieces and nephews
A memorial gathering will begin at 11 am on Saturday, April 16, in the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth Center, followed by a memorial service at noon in the funeral home.
