The Martha’s Vineyard varsity softball team surged over the 500-mark with a pair of emphatic non-league victories last week. The Vineyarders piled up over 40 runs in wins over Chatham and Brighton.

Monday afternoon at the blustery, chilly Island high school field, the Vineyarders romped to a 21-5 win over the Chatham High Blue Devils.

Emily Cimeno and Gillian Sedlier led the Vineyarders with two hits and two RBI’s apiece.

Pitcher Hailee McCarthy earned the win, striking out two, walking none, and giving up nine hits. She also helped out at the plate with a double.

Friday at Brighton, the Vineyarders tamed the Bengals 20-2. Emma Forbes hit a two-run homer, went 3 for 5 from the plate, and came within a double of hitting for the cycle.

Emily Cimeno had two hits and three RBI’s. Crystal Miske also had two hits. Hailee McCarthy pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking three, to claim the win.

The Vineyarders are 6-5 and host Eastern Athletic Conference foes Coyle and Cassidy of Taunton Thursday at 3 pm.
