The Martha’s Vineyard high school boys’ tennis team defeated the Coyle & Cassidy Warriors at Lakeville Wednesday, 4-1. It was the eighth win for the Vineyarders in nine matches.

Second and third singles players Kent Leonard and Justice Yennie won their matches handily in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-0.

At first singles, Reid Yennie and CC’s Kevin Dupont couldn’t have been better matched. Dupont won the first set, 6-4. Yennie returned the compliment by the same margin in set two.

The third set in the two and a half hour marathon match was tied at 4-4. Neither player could hold serve and at 6-6 they played a tie-breaker. Dupont went up 6-4. Yennie saved the next point but hit the ball wide at match point. Game and set, Dupont.

At second doubles, Bennet Schwab and Michael Piland, playing in their first varsity match, outlasted their opponents in three sets: 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Kevin Sealy and Zach Thomas won at first doubles, 6-1, 6-3.
