The Vineyard high school boys’ tennis team won its ninth match and swept Bishop Stang of North Dartmouth, Friday, 5-0. The team has lost only once. It was their sixth Eastern Athletic Conference win without a loss.
Reid Yennie, Kent Leonard, and Justice Yennie defeated their Spartan foes without raising a sweat, 8-2, 8-0, and 8-0.
Jackson McBride and Patrick McCarthy, Justine Smith and Ryan Sawyer, the Vineyard’s first and second doubles teams, were equally dominant, both posting 8-1 winning margins.
The first scheduled Martha’s Vineyard versus Stang match was rained out and teams agreed to play a double header. But because of time constraints it was decided that an eight-game pro set would be played in lieu of the normal 2 of 3 set match, hence the unfamiliar scores.
The win qualified the Islanders for the season-ending team tournament in early June.
