To the Editor:
I am writing this letter as a reminder on the eve of our busy season here on Martha’s Vineyard. When you come upon a horse and rider or horse and cart on the road, please slow down.
The rules of the road are that you should be driving at a reasonably slow speed and you should keep a reasonable distance from the horse. This means slow down when you see a horse. It also means pass wide.
You should be doing this for bicycles as well. It is also illegal to beep your horn when you encounter a horse on the road. Please, everybody, let’s stay safe.
