Edgartown has always been a great place to be for receiving great beauty and grooming services. With at least seven options in town, you just have to click your heels twice to get your hair cut or a pampering service. Men can now add a quick cut or trim to the list of availability in Edgartown, as the newest shop addition is a barber.
Mac’s Barber Shop was opened this past week by owner Madeleine “Maddie” Maccaferri and is located at the tip of the Triangle, adjacent to Edgartown Pizza. You won’t be able to miss their colorful barber pole just outside their entrance and you should prepare yourself to step into a cool, relaxed atmosphere for your cut or trim. Ms. Maccaferri has been a full-time barber for more than 13 years and has been on-Island for the last two and one half years, most recently at Bert’s Barber Shop in Vineyard Haven.
“I saw a need in Edgartown for a barber shop that offers a quick, reasonably priced haircut,” she said. “I will be leaving the long, fancy cuts to the neighboring salons.” Mac’s offers men’s and boy’s regular haircuts starting at $15, along with beard trims for $5 on their own or $3 if added to a cut. Senior gentlemen are in luck as Mac’s also offers a senior discount, which makes a haircut $13.
“I am also looking to add in straight-edged shaving in the very near future,” she says. And, women looking for that simple, short haircut will also be able to find a haven here.
The shop is opened Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, closed for lunch break from 2 to 3:30 pm, and open on Saturday’s from 9 am to 2 pm (at least). Ms. Maccaferri will make special appointments for outside the shop’s hours when needed. For more information or to reserve your time you can call 508-627-1044 or just stop by, as walk-ins are welcome.
For those looking for additional services, such as nails, facials, tans, and more, one of Edgartown’s salons might be your choice. A Hair Affair (508-627-7976) is located just outside of town at 10 Chambers Way and has services for hair, nails, waxing, and tanning.
Shear Inspiration Salon (508-627-8333) is on Mariner’s Way at the Triangle (behind Granite and the new Edgartown Meat & Fish Market). Shear Inspiration is a year-round, full service hair and nail salon for the whole family that is owned by Islander Kristen Tidmarsh Araujo. Don’t forget to ask about their no-risk makeover, where you can see a computer-generated you with different hairstyles, colors, and lengths.
On Upper Main Street you will find Wave Lengths Salon & Day Spa (508-627-7066), which is well-known for pampering you with many delights while you socialize with your Island neighbors.
Downtown has three full service salons, all within walking distance of each other. Pure Touch Salon (508-939-3123) is adjacent to the Harborside Inn on South Water Street. They are now offering new, expanded spa services and as always, a view of Edgartown Harbor while you get your hair cut. Boucle Salon & Spa (508-627-3853) is on North Water Street and is complemented by their boutique that offers clothes, sandals, hats, bags, and more. Finally, the newest addition to downtown is Sea Spa Salon (508-62-STYLE), which opened its doors this spring. This eco-friendly spa is located on North Water Street inside of the Vineyard Square Hotel and Suites.
