The new Under 14 MV Travel Softball team, most of whom were members of the school league slow pitch league, has joined the Cape Cod Softball League, a fast pitch league, a challenge to the Vineyarders. Adding to the challenge, since they joined late, all of their games will be played off-Island.

The team is scheduled to play twice a week and practice here on two other nights each week.

The Islanders are now in fourth place, with a 2-3 win-loss record. Both wins were at the expense of Wareham. All losses were to Barnstable teams.

In one of the wins, at Wareham, Emily Turney hit an inside-the-park home run. Laurie Turney is coach of the team.

The team returned to Wareham on Tuesday. The Islanders won 28-16.

Team roster: Emma Bunker, Alison Daigle, Naomi Felix, Amoy Ferguson, Josie Iodicicco, Shanon Morris, Samantha Robinson, Julie Sauter, Jessica Sonia, Emily Turney, Heidi White, and Abigail Willoughby.

To offset the considerable cost of travel, the team plans a car wash on Saturday, July16, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the West Tisbury Fire Station
