The unclassifiable dance troupe, the Bang Group, brought their explosive mix of dance styles, physical comedy, acrobatics, and quick costume changes to The Yard last weekend for two shows.

The five-person troupe comes from a diverse background of theater and dance, and the shows included tap, jazz, ballet, vaudeville, silent film comedy, contemporary dance, and MGM musicals. In other words, with a little help from some velcro, the fast paced shows managed to incorporate a little bit of everything in high and low art and utilize the multiple talents of the performers, and the wit and outrageous humor of co-creators David Parker and Jeffrey Kazin into two nights of uniquely entertaining theater magic.

Tonight, Aug. 11, The Yard will host their first-ever Public Dancing ALLOWED! event. Local faves Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish will be performing their danceable mix of blues and rock while all are encouraged to dance the night away in the converted barn theater. All ages are welcome. Drink and desserts will be catered by the Chilmark Tavern. Admission is $10; $5 for children under 12. For more information, visit dancetheyard.org.
