Vineyarders shine in Manchester Invitational

Friday, the Islanders took ship (and bus) to Manchester. N.H. for Saturday’s 37th annual Manchester Invitational at Derryfield Park, along with 1,841 runners and dozens of teams from across New England and New York State.

The Vineyarders competed in the small school category and competed well.

In the boys meet, Michael Schroeder finished 17th of 221 racers in 17:29. The winner was Jeremy Brassard of Coe Brown in 16:27.

Also scoring for MV were Cooper Chapman, 27th in 17:50; Kyle Jaba-Woodruff, 37th in 18:05; Thorpe Karabees, 37th in 18:45; Job deForest, 70th 18:52; Jeremy Alley-Tarter 82nd in 19:07 and Sam Oslyn 91st in 19:21.

The MV boys team was seventh of 32 small school teams finishing behind (1) Greely (2) Bow (3) Hanover (4) Coe Brown (5) Pelham and (6) Freeport.

The MV girls did as well. At 182, they finished 7th behind Coe Brown (67), Hopkinton (99), Harwood (125), Lebanon (125), Greely (132), and Oyster River (153).

Sami Hicks of Laconia, N.H. was the girls winner, completing the course in 19:22. Shivonne Schofield led the Island girls finishng 27th in 21:43. Hannah Moore was 30th at 21:54. Eva Balboni was 44th in 22:43 and Lilly Neville was 46th in 22:45.

Other Vineyarders were Willoe Maynard, 66th in 23:41; Lucy Morris, 98th in 24:55 and Shelby Ferry, 100th at 25:01. Maya Harcourt finished in 26:00 and was 121st.

One hundred seventy-nine girls made the run. Twenty-four teams raced in the girls small school category.

Five Vineyarders received medals for their top thirty efforts: Mike Schroeder and Cooper Chapman in the boys varsity race; Shivonne Schofield and Hannah Moore in the girls varsity race; and Julia Neville, who finished 20th of 110 runners in the freshman girls race, with a time of 14:51.
