Earth’s Flame, a Colorado-based company now advertising on the Vineyard, wants to retrofit fireplaces to reduce pollutants and increase fireplace efficiency.
The specially designed stainless steel retrofit, which replaces cast iron grates, for open hearth fireplaces, produces approximately 115 percent more radiant heat than a wood fire, reduces emissions up to 78 percent, increases fireplace draft by 76 percent, and reduces CO and smoke spillage by 60 percent, according to a company press release.
Primarily the grate creates a hotter burn of the wood by keeping an even and hot coal bed underneath the fire and the refractory panel above keeps heat down in the fire. The end result is a hotter burning fire.
