Vineyard Youth Tennis hosted a pro-junior exhibition doubles rematch, Dec. 14. VYT head pro Mike Halisky and former Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School number one singles player Reid Yennie once again took on VYT executive director Scott Smith and this year’s projected MVRHS number one singles player Kent Leonard.

Last February, Scott and Leonard rallied from a set down to win a 2-6, 7-6 (6), 10-8 decision. This time, however, Halisky and Yennie exacted revenge with a cool and consistent 6-3, 6-2 win.

Halisky, ranked number one in New England in the 35 and over division, and Yennie, currently ranked 110 in the NE junior tennis 18s division, broke serve at 1-0 in the first set and twice, at 2-1 and 5-2 in the second set, to reap the spoils.

More than 100 fans packed the VYT bubble to enjoy the tennis and eat some pizza.

VYT would again like to thank Doug Cooper for his sterling work in the umpire’s chair.
