In the Interscholastic junior high league, the unbeaten West Tisbury Hawks boys team maintained its spotless record by downing the overmatched but game Tisbury Tigers, 59-40, Tuesday at the Tisbury School.

High scorers for WesTiz were Chase Sylvia with 22, and Silas Berlin (19). Cole Houston had 18 for the Tigers.

The scheduled Oak Bluffs vs Tisbury girls game was postponed until Friday at O.B.

Eagle girls douse Blazers

On January 4, Edgartown’s twin towers, Erin Hill and Samantha Hargy, were too much, too often, for the Oak Bluffs Blazers and the Lady Eagles flew away with a 55-30 win at the O.B. gym. Erin scored 23 points. Samantha accounted for 26. Together they snagged uncounted bunches of rebounds.

Kaitlyn Marchand led O.B. scorers with 11 points. Lacey Dinning added 10 more, all in the second half. The Blazers showed plenty of grit, but they were no match for the taller team.

The Edgartown girls are undefeated having beaten West Tisbury, Tisbury, and O.B. in the first go-round.

Blazers boys smoke Eagles

The very next day, Thursday, tables were turned and the Oak Bluffs boys, enjoying a distinct height advantage, ran away with a 38-22 victory at the Eagles aerie.

Tucker McNeely’s 10 points led the even-scoring Blazers. Six Blazers finished with six or more points.

A 12-point run at the end of the first half gave O.B. a 20-9 edge.

Another 14-point run at the beginning of the second half increased the lead to 32-9. The Eagles failed to score in the third quarter.

Edgartown actually outscored their guests, 10-6 in the final period as O.B. Coach Alex McCluskey substituted freely.

The O.B. boys record thus far is 2-1, having lost to West Tisbury.
