Citizens United critics will honor Island reps

Island selectmen, county commissioners, and Island voters will gather to recognize state Sen. Daniel Wolf and Rep. Timothy Madden, at a brief ceremony outside the West Tisbury Library at 10:45 Saturday, May 12. The ceremony will recognize their efforts in support of Senate Bill 772, according to a press release.

The bill calls on the U.S. Congress to initiate a constitutional amendment to overturn the January 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. “This ruling now allows corporations and lobby groups, through their SuperPACs, to spend unlimited and undisclosed amounts of money in support of their chosen candidates,” Ann Rosenkranz, a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Committee to Overturn Citizens United, said in a press release.

“On Saturday, Island selectmen, county commissioners and the Island voting public will announce that all six Island towns have passed resolutions in support of S.772 and will recognize the work of Senator Wolf and Representative Madden to overturn the Citizens United ruling and restore free speech.”
