The Oak Bluffs Police Department held a swearing in ceremony on May 2 for its newest police officer.

Dustin Shaw took the oath of office before family, friends and colleagues last week. Officer Shaw fills a vacancy left by Officer Jeffrey Trudel, who transferred to the Edgartown Police Department.

Mr. Shaw is familiar with his new town. He was born and raised in Oak Bluffs and graduated from the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in 2003.

A Coast Guard veteran, he previously worked for the Tisbury Police Department as a full-time officer from 2008 to 2012.
