To the Editor:
The students who participated in the 9th Solar Car Race on June 2 — from the Charter, Edgartown, Tisbury, West Tisbury, and Oak Bluffs schools — were exceedingly well prepared in all ways, by their teachers and by their own enthusiastic approach to learning about renewable source of solar energy. What a delight it is to work with students and teachers who have fun with hands-on projects while seriously learning challenging content material, with the transformation of energy that is part of the state learning framework.
Thanks to all the of fifth and sixth grade teachers for all your incredible commitment from start to finish, in preparing 86 teams for the education of Vineyard Energy Project and Solar Model Car Race. Also, many thanks to principals, parents, and Island communities of the participating schools, for supporting this project for the last nine years.
Vineyard Energy Project also thanks all of the sponsors: Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club, Cape Light Compact, Vineyard Bottled Waters, Edgartown Meat and Fish Market, Edgartown Marine Boat Services, and Patrick Ahearn Architects LLC, for donating students’ Solar Model Car Event T-shirts. Despite the rainy weather, the bright yellow T-shirts brought sunshine to the indoor event.
