Sugar plum fairies danced, the Mouse King staged a grand battle, and little Clara saved the Nutcracker once again, in the annual “Nutcracker Gala” presented by Children in the Arts of Martha’s Vineyard.

In two weekend performances at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Performing Arts Center, dozens of Islanders danced to the famous Tchaikovsky score, alongside professional ballet dancers from the Atlantic Coast Ballet Company.

Megan Mendez played the plum role of young Clara in the Saturday evening production, while Alexis Condon played Clara in the Sunday afternoon matinee.

This is the fifteenth year Island audiences were delighted with the festive dance tradition.
