The annual Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Freshman Cup competition on Friday provided a lively opportunity for students to segue into relaxation mode on the eve of the one-week spring school vacation.

Students from nine homerooms competed in five categories and there was not one equation or spelling question among them. The events included a relay, musical chairs, tandem relay, bubble gum pie eating and limbo.

Team “Fighting 407,” under the guidance of homeroom teacher Jan Wightman came in first with 29 points, followed by “The Matrix,” under the guidance of Mark McCarthy in second place with 22 points. Third spot went to “Krazies” in Corinne Kurtz’s homeroom 415.

The grand prize went to The Matrix following a tug-of-war between teams Matrix and Fighting 407, the two top finishers.
