Martha’s Vineyard 2 for 2 over Coyle Cassidy in girls lacrosse

The Vineyard varsity girls lacrosse team wrapped up an Eastern Athletic Conference home-and-home sweep of the Coyle Cassidy Warriors with a 17-8 win Tuesday in Taunton. The Vineyarders (4-9) took the opener, 21-7, on May 9 in Oak Bluffs.

In the return match, 10 different Vineyarders got on the scoresheet. Emily DeBettencourt was the player of the game, controlling the center draw throughout, hustling all over the field, and scoring twice. Taylor Poggi scored four goals. Molly Wallace and Alayna Hutchinson each chalked up a hat trick. Isabel Smith, Lee Hayman, K.C. Wallace, Emma Yuen, and Leila Gardner all scored once. Assists went to Molly Wallace (2), Smith (2), Hutchinson, Hayman, K.C. Wallace, and Charlotte McCarron.

Alex Clark anchored the Vineyard defense and did a fine job bringing the ball upfield on turnovers. Keilla Geddis, Alice Keenan, and Hartley Sierputoski also had strong games for the Vineyarders.

M.V. plays at Scituate Thursday and hosts Mashpee in the home finale Friday at 3 pm.
