On Father’s Day Sunday, members of the First Baptist Church of Vineyard Haven presented 14 “Comfort Companions” for children to Tracey Jones, Tisbury Emergency Medical Services ambulance coordinator.
The idea to provide stuffed animals for children transported by ambulance to the hospital is the result of an experience church member Doug Tatreau had when he was recently transported to the hospital by ambulance. He thought about how fearful an experience it might be for young children when they are hurting.
In response, the First Baptist Church will now supply new, safe, stuffed animals that can be given to each child to take with them to the hospital and, of course, to accompany them home again.
