Anticipating the Fourth of July, Times managing editor Nelson Sigelman asked the newspaper’s award winning production designer Kristofer Rabasca to create a front page illustration that captured the celebratory atmosphere of the nation’s birthday, as a small town and all of us and our friends and guests committed themselves to the party.
Kris assembled an expressive collection of photographs by Alison Shaw, L.A. Brown, and Times staff photographer Ralph Stewart. Then he turned to a unique website, befunky.com.
With characteristic understatement, Kris said all it took was, “A little bit of Photoshop work and then finding what you want.”
Plus his sharp eye, and many hours.
