Water quality samples taken on August 1 in two areas of Lagoon Pond closed to swimming last week show the water is once again within acceptable limits.

Oak Bluffs health agent Shirley Feauteux reopened the beach in Lagoon Pond near the drawbridge, and the beach in Medeiros Cove near the Sailing Camp Monday morning. The beaches were closed to swimming July 31.

The pond at Lucy Vincent Beach in Chilmark, also closed on July 31, remains closed, according to the Massachusetts Board of Environmental Health, the state agency that monitors water quality and enforces regulations.

Local health agents test water quality on Island beaches weekly during the summer.
