Snaps, Mamas winners as women’s playoffs heat up

The double-elimination women’s summer softball playoffs are in full swing at Veterans Park. Tuesday night, the top-seeded Snaps, looking for a second championship, took on the Rug Sox under the lights and left with a 14-9 win.

Kaylea Moore hit a three-run triple in the first inning and Kelly Sullivan had three more RBIs for the Snaps. Ryann Gold knocked in two runs, while Kurstin Meehan, mom Mary Beth, and Crystal Roy all had RBIs for Team Green.

Katherine Clark led off the game with a home run and added another in the sixth for the Sox. Alyssa Carpenter had two RBIs, while Jen Oliver, Virginia Clark, and Miranda Tokarz each had one.

In the earlier contest Tuesday night, the third-seeded Mama’s Girls edged the second-seeded Honeys, 5-4. Katie Hines had an RBI and scored a run for the Mamas. Jillian Sedlier and Lauren Williston also had RBIs.

Kendall Robinson had a great two-way game for the Honeys and finished with two RBIs. Nicole Gazaille and Darcie Lee Hanaway also knocked in runs for the Honeys, who fought back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sarah Williston cut the rally short with a great running catch to end the game.

The playoffs began on August 15 with the Rug Sox topping the Creamers, 12-2, and Mama’s Girls beating the Shady Ladies. Marissa Estrella and Katherine Clark had homers for the Rug Sox.

The playoffs continued with two games Wednesday night, followed by a twinbill Thursday and one game Friday. The finals are set for Tuesday night, August 27.
