A booming New Year

The New Year crashed, boomed, popped, and hissed over Edgartown Harbor at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Hundreds of revelers stepped away from the festivities inside the Harbor View Hotel, into very chilly, but perfectly clear air to watch the show.

They counted down the final seconds of 2013 with enthusiasm, and cheered when the first rocket lit up the sky, then cheered again when the final sparks faded over Edgartown Light.

Earlier in the evening, the Island whooped it up at several New Year’s Eve events.

Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish have played New Year’s Eve gigs on Martha’s Vineyard for most of three decades, and they did not disappoint the dancers at the Katharine Cornell Theatre in Vineyard Haven this year.

DJ AP and DJ Ceazzaleanno spun hip hop mixes for a hip young crowd at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs

The ever-popular Boogies had the floor shaking at The Wharf in Edgartown, with their unique style of libation fueled disco.

The Mike Benjamin Band rocked one ballroom, and The Sultans of Swing swung another, for a well-heeled crowd at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown.
