Full ferry service resumes, Tisbury lifts parking ban

The Steamship Authority (SSA) resumed service with all scheduled vessels at 1 pm today. The SSA advises that the decision for each scheduled trip is being made on a trip by trip basis.

Tisbury extended its street parking ban until 6 pm, but crews have finished their work and the ban will be lifted at 4 pm.

All public schools on Martha’s Vineyard are cancelled Wednesday as the Island deals with wind, snow, and extremely cold temperatures.

At noon, the temperature in Vineyard Haven was 16 degrees, with a wind chill factor of 9 below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

Snowfall totals varied widely across southeastern Massachusetts. At mid-morning, according to unofficial snowfall amounts listed by the weather service, the Island got 5 to 8 inches of snow, on the low end of the forecast.

Hanover, Norwell, and Duxbury got 15 to 18 inches of snow.

The Chappaquiddick ferry resumed normal service at 10:30 am.

Schools

All public schools are cancelled. According to the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School website exams that were scheduled for today have been rescheduled to Monday, January 27. Exams scheduled for Thursday, weather permitting, will be for classes meeting E & F periods. The school advises checking Edline for more details.

Edgartown

Town Hall, Council on Aging, and Edgartown Library, all closed.

Tisbury

Tisbury has extended its street parking ban, originally scheduled to end at noon, to 6 pm Wednesday evening.

All non-essential town services are cancelled, according to Aase Jones, assistant town administrator.

The Vineyard Haven Library will be closed Wednesday.

Oak Bluffs

East Chop Drive will be closed from Munroe Avenue to Brewster Avenue until 4 pm, Wednesday.

Oak Bluffs town hall, Oak Bluffs Library and the Council on Aging are closed Wednesday.

West Tisbury

All town offices will be closed Wednesday morning, but could reopen Wednesday afternoon, depending on the weather.

The West Tisbury board of selectmen’s meeting scheduled for Wednesday is postponed until next Wednesday, January 29.

Chilmark

The Chilmark selectmen’s meeting scheduled for 7 pm, Tuesday night was rescheduled to noon, Thursday, January 23.

Dukes County

The County Commissioners meeting scheduled for 5 pm Wednesday is cancelled.

YMCA

The Y plans to open at 12 pm on Wednesday, weather permitting.

Community Events

The Community Sing to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School, has been rescheduled to January 29.

Businesses

The Edgartown National Bank will open all branches at 1 pm.

Mocha Mott’s plans to open at 8 am.

Sharky’s Cantina restaurants will open at noon.
