Happy Dumptique picking

To the Editor:

Thank you so very much for writing about the Dumptique [The Dumptique is alive and well in West Tisbury, March 10]. To be a part of the Island community that built the building and then enlarged and improved it as well is very nice. It feels good.

You might be surprised to know that some people leave off items of no value (broken toasters, say). By dropping damaged or broken stuff they can avoid paying a dump fee. Yes, human nature. So there is also a place to leave something to help pay the dump fees, and life goes on in West Tisbury.

(My spies tell me that several of the towns on Cape Cod have versions of  “exchanges.” Happy dump picking.)
