One up, three down for girls tennis team

The Vineyard girls varsity tennis team played four matches in a seven-day span from May 7 and 13, winning one and dropping three.

The Purple traveled to Ursuline Academy in Dedham on May 13 and lost to the Lady Bears, 4-1. Sam Potter scored the lone Vineyard point with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Curtis at first singles.

Playing without Sam Potter on Friday, the Vineyarders (6-7) traveled to Somerset Berkley and lost 3-2. Both Vineyard doubles teams were victorious. Diamond Araujo and Avery Hazell won the tightest match of the day, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5, over Emma Luke and Baila Mir at first doubles, while the second doubles team of Madison McBride and Amadine Muniz downed Rachel Santos and Corinne Morhy, 6-3, 6-3.

The Lady Raiders swept the singles matches in straight sets. Bo Roman defeated Josie Iadicicco at first singles, 6-2, 6-2; Kelsey Gray won against Charlotte Potter at second singles and Melanie Wong bested Allison Daigle at third singles, 6-3, 6-1.

After falling to Bishop Feehan 4-1 on May 7, the Vineyarders responded well the following day by shutting out Coyle Cassidy 5-0 in Oak Bluffs.
