Margaret “Peggy” Korth Johnson died peacefully on Sept. 12, 2014. She was 84, and a direct descendent of the original Coffin family of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
Born Margaret Glynne Korth in New York City, on Sept. 6, 1930, she grew up in Eastchester, N.Y. and on Martha’s Vineyard. She graduated from Eastchester High School and later from the Central Park School of Art, with a focus on fashion illustration. She married Bob Johnson in 1956 and raised five children, Katharine, Robert, Susan, Timothy, and Leslie, in Westchester, N.Y., and Tisbury.
After moving back to the Vineyard with her family in 1972, Peggy worked as an assistant librarian at the Vineyard Haven Public Library and as a teacher’s aide in the Oak Bluffs school system. She loved reading books, art, and life on the Island. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her five children and six grandchildren, Javier, Eliza, Keenan, Hannah, Bryce, and Nolan.
Interment will be private.
