The Vineyard girls seventh-grade travel basketball team split their doubleheader last Saturday, beating Falmouth 26-25 but losing to Rochester 31-30. Both games, held at the Oak Bluffs School, were exciting and competitive.
In the first game, Devin Hill’s two free throws with 14 seconds to play clinched the victory. Devin led the team with 14 points, while Sasha Lakis and Riley Yuhas both had 4.
The Vineyard girls faced a quick, pressing Rochester team during their second game, and they felt that pressure all game. Devin Hill led the way again with 12, while sharpshooter Emily Mello had 8. Defensive stalwart Sasha Lakis contributed 6 points, but more important had several crucial blocks. The girls next play off-Island against Dartmouth and Barnstable.
