Sunday, Feb. 1, marks Super Bowl XLIX. The highly anticipated matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks kicks off Sunday at 6:30 pm on NBC from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. While the nation continues to speculate on Deflategate, local bars and restaurants prepare for big parties — with food specials, giveaways, and ample television screens. Here’s a roundup of where you can catch the big game on-Island.
Sharky’s Cantina in Edgartown is hosting a Super Bowl party beginning at 5 pm. The event will feature giveaways of more than $7,000 in prizes from local businesses, including special gifts from Vineyard Vines, Crane Appliances, Rymes Propane, Bad Martha’s, Bruno’s, Jim’s Package Store, the Mansion House, and more. Watch the game on one of 15 TVs, including 70-in., 60-in., and 50-in. televisions at full volume, while getting a chance to win one of 50 certificates to Island businesses. All guests will receive 10 raffle tickets upon entry for their chance to win; there is no cash exchanged and no fee for entering the giveaways. Raffle tickets will also be given out based on guests’ bills, who will be awarded one additional raffle ticket for every $10 spent. Guests must be present to win any prizes. Call the restaurant at 508-627-6565 for additional information.
The Wharf in Edgartown will also be showing the game across their six 42-in. HD televisions in the front bar and the back bar. The party will feature a Las Vegas vacation giveaway: a three-day/two-night stay in Sin City, including hotel accommodations and $500 in casino benefits (excluding airfare). Customers who purchase an appetizer will receive two raffle tickets, or tickets can be purchased for $5 each or $10 for three tickets. The raffle starts at 5 pm, and the drawing will be held at halftime. The chosen customer must be present to win the prize. For more information, call the Wharf at 508-627-9966.
In Oak Bluffs, the new management of the Ocean View will be hosting a Super Bowl party on Sunday, and welcomes all new and returning customers to the restaurant. The event will showcase the game across all 10 of the restaurant’s televisions, and will feature $5 appetizer specials, door prizes, and a 50-in. LED television giveaway. For more information, call Ocean View at 508-627-9966.
Also in Oak Bluffs, The Ritz will be hosting their own Super Bowl-size party. They’ll offer 50¢ chicken wings, door prizes, and raffle items, along with their full bar and kitchen menu, and will show the game across all eight of their 60-in. and 48-in. televisions. Plus now that the bar is home to the first duly registered Patriots fan club of Martha’s Vineyard, as acknowledged by fanclubs.patriots.com, it’s officially Patriots Country in there. Call The Ritz at 508-693-9851 for additional information about the event.
Another Oak Bluffs haunt, Offshore Ale Co., will be airing the game on both of their televisions, with 40-plus seats to view from. They’ll be serving their regular menu until at least the third quarter, which includes wings, free peanuts and locally brewed craft beer. For more information call Offshore Ale Co. at 508-693-2626.
