Two Island men face drug charges after they were arrested by Oak Bluffs police working with members of the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force, on Friday, Feb. 6.
Police set up surveillance after developing information about an imminent drug sale in the parking lot of Our Market in Oak Bluffs, according to court documents.
Arrested were Emmett M. Cook, 21, of Edgartown, and Patrick E. McHugh, 29, of Oak Bluffs. “Detectives located three separate plastic bags that contained a brown powder substance believed to be heroin in Mr. Cook’s possession,” according to a news release from Oak Bluffs police. “Detectives also located one Clonazepam pill, two folded pieces of paper that each contained a brown powder substance believed to be heroin, and a hypodermic needle on Mr. Cook. Several hundred dollars cash was seized from Mr. Cook.”
Both men were arraigned in Edgartown District Court on Feb. 9. The court entered not guilty pleas for Mr. Cook on a charge of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Mr. McHugh was charged with being present where heroin is kept, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
The two men were released on $3,500 cash bail each.
