Nancy Trecartin Marvel died peacefully on March 3 in Cohasset. She was 96.
Nancy was an award-winning watercolor artist, who participated in many art shows on her beloved Martha’s Vineyard. She was a long-term volunteer at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, and an avid birder and gardener.
Nancy was born to Natalie (Pohlé) and John Trecartin in Montclair, N.J., on Oct. 31, 1918. She graduated from Beaver College in Glenside, Pa., and Montclair Art School. She was married to Andrew Marvel, who predeceased her in 1995. They lived in North Caldwell, N.J., before moving to Chilmark in 1971.
She leaves her daughter, Christine Marvel Hotarek of Scituate, and her son, Andrew Marvel of Weston. She is survived by her five grandchildren, Michael Hotarek of Norwell; Amy (Hotarek) Garber of Canton; Stephanie (Marvel) Allison of Cohasset; Jenna Marvel of Boston; and Julia Marvel of Weston. She also leaves four cherished great-grandchildren, Kyle and Katherine Hotarek of Norwell and Andrew and Paige Garber of Canton. She is survived by her brother John Trecartin and family of Montville, N.J. There will be a celebration of her life on Martha’s Vineyard in the late spring.
