Patrick Best of Vineyard Haven was first to the finish line Sunday morning in a brisk and breezy 17th annual Ocean View St. Patrick’s Dayish 5K Run and Walk in Oak Bluffs. The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School sophomore clocked in at 19:54, eight seconds clear of race runner-up and MVRHS track teammate Daniel Gaines of Edgartown.

MVRHS freshman runner Rose Engler of Oak Bluffs was the women’s winner and finished ninth overall with a time of 22:43.

Nearly 100 hardy souls braved temperatures in the low 30’s and a stiff breeze to navigate the East Chop 5K course. Proceeds from the race benefited the MVRHS track and field and cross-country teams.
