Six men’s teams contended in the Men’s Doubles Club Championships played at Airport Fitness and Tennis Center on March 30 and 31. Adam Bresnick and Doug Cooper defeated Gavin Franklin and Paul Ulyatt for the title. Mr. Cooper and Mr. Franklin won 6-2, 6-3.
Playoff tennis in both mixed doubles and Women’s Doubles Club Championships concluded on April 3. In the mixed-doubles match, Shawn Schofield and Dori Clark faced off against Todd and Marilda Hollister and claimed the title.
The women’s doubles final was a marathon affair, with some sensational tennis. Mary Breslauer and Penny Franklin faced off against Beth Sawyer and Paula Rego in the final. Ms. Breslauer and Ms. Franklin won the crown 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (8-6). It only took two sets, but they both went to tiebreaks that each lasted over an hour.
