The Feldman Family Artspace at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center recently announced the next round of 12 artists that were selected to display their work in the space, after a selection jury reviewed the artwork of 21 Island artists. According to a press release, about half of the submissions were from photographers, and the other half were paintings and illustrations. Jury members Joyce Brigish (former gallery owner), Paul Brissette (art educator), Nancy Cramer (Shaw Cramer Gallery), and Libby Ellis (graphic artist) were given the task of narrowing the 21 submissions to 12 show slots. Selections were based on technical, graphic, and aesthetic criteria, as well as a balance of media and styles suitable for the space.
This year’s selected artists are: Jeffery Canha (April 13–May 21), Alejandro Carreno (June 8–June 29), Jack Yuen (June 29–July 20), Ellen Liman (August 17–August 31), Vincent Chahley (August 31–Sept. 21), Rez Williams (Sept. 28–Oct. 19), Max Skjoldebrand (Oct. 19–Nov. 9), Henry Stevenson (Nov. 9–Dec. 7), Elizabeth Taft (Dec. 7–Jan. 4), and Peter Dryer (Jan. 4–Feb. 15). Selected artists were drawn by lottery for specific show dates throughout the year, and each artist is invited to hold an opening reception during his or her respective exhibit.
All works will remain up for the duration of the shows. Anyone interested in purchasing a piece of art should contact and make arrangements directly with the artist. According to a press release, each artist has agreed to donate 15 percent of the purchase price of any artworks sold during the show to the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society.
