Rainy Goodale of the Martha’s Vineyard Masters Swim Club competed at the U.S. Masters Spring National Short Course Yards Championships in San Antonio, Texas, from April 24 to 26. Ms. Goodale also represented the New England Masters Swim Club, the overarching masters swimming organization for all of New England. Nearly 1,900 swimmers participated in the championships, including several ex-Olympians and two current Olympians, Matt Grevers and Anthony Ervin.
Ms. Goodale swam in five individual events, and was a member of four New England Masters relay teams. She placed first in the nation in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events in the women’s 45- to 49-year-old age group. Ms. Goodale also set New England records in all three events in winning the gold medals by swimming 33.12 in the 50-yard-breaststroke, 1:10.62 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and 2:34.33 in the 200 yard breaststroke. In setting these records, she surpassed her own New England records, which she set at the New England Championship meet at Harvard this past March.
