The boys tennis team is on a roll in state tournament action.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys varsity tennis team defeated Sacred Heart 4-1 in the first round of the Division 3 South Sectional at home Thursday.

First singles Connor Downing lost a close match 7-6, 6-4 after missing nearly two weeks with a chest cold. Second singles Zak Danz picked up his team leading 14th win of the season winning 6-0, 6-0. Zak made few, if any, errors and played his best match of the year.

Third singles Dunovan Belisle also won 6-2, 6-0. In doubles, Max Hammond and James Kelliher won easily 6-0, 6-0 while David Webster and Graham Lewis also won, albeit less easily, 6-4, 6-1.

The boys advance to the second round Monday, where they will face the winner Friday’s matchup between Cohasset and Mashpee.
