Father’s Day is right around the corner, and it’s always nice to glean a few ideas for successful gifts and memorable celebrations in order to craft just the right day for the dad in your life. If you’re new to the Island, or running low on time or inspiration this year, check out some of our favorite ways to celebrate the men we love, the Vineyard way.

For the dad who hunts and fishes

A Sundog wooden pocket knife with bronze Martha’s Vineyard engraving for $59. The men’s clothing store in Edgartown also carries woolen Pendleton Blankets for $100 to keep him warm while he’s out at sea.
Treat him to a day on the open waters fishing with Tomahawk Fishing Charters, owned and operated by Buddy Vanderhoop. Visit for details.
Check out Larry’s Tackle Shop in Edgartown or Dick’s Bait and Tackle in Oak Bluffs for fishing supplies.
The Green Room in Vineyard Haven sells the indestructible Yeti coolers and accessories. The goods start at $250, but would be a fisherman’s best friend.

For the active dad

Share some quality time on the water with kayak rentals, or take a kayaking tour, with Island Spirit Kayaks in Edgartown. A half-day tour is only $65 for adults, and a beginner paddle-boarding (SUP) tour goes for $55.
Try something new, and take windsurfing lessons at Winds Up in Vineyard Haven. The beginner package goes for $125, but if you’re looking to get the whole family involved, go for the five-lesson package and bring everyone for $500. If you’re already a windsurfer, rentals are $25/hour.
Help him protect his eyes while he’s out and about. Try Sunglass Haven on Main Street, Vineyard Haven, for a new pair of sunglasses. Sunglass Haven caters to all price brackets, so you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for at the price you’re hoping for. If you’re in Edgartown, Summer Shades on Main Street carries a wide range of brands, styles, and prices. For the dad who constantly breaks his sunglasses, the “Freight Train” will become his new best friend. These shades are made with “memory metal,” which essentially means that they bend a surprising amount, making them quite durable. These polarized, resilient shades sell for $329.
Outfit him in his favorite Vineyard team apparel or treat him to some new sports equipment, courtesy of Sports Haven in Vineyard Haven.
