Recently, educators from Garden Gate Child Development Center, a small private preschool in Vineyard Haven, have been reaching out to the early childhood community to talk about education for our youngest students.
Last November, co-directors Dawn Warner and Leigh Ann Yuen were asked to speak at the Annual Day of Learning, hosted by the Harvard Affiliated Child Care Centers in Cambridge.
In June, these two passionate advocates for early childhood education will host their own professional opportunity for early childhood educators on the Vineyard. “Exploring Contexts: A Retreat for Early Childhood Educators” will take place on June 25 and 26 at A Gallery in Oak Bluffs funded in part by a grant from the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard. Educators from as far away as Sweden will be gathering on the Island to share their experiences and explore their values regarding childhood, education, and community, according to a press release.
“We are excited to reach out and connect with other educators both locally and globally for the benefit of educating young children. Sharing our work this way enriches us as teachers, but ultimately it is the children who have the most to gain,” said Ms. Yuen.
