The Vineyard Gray outlasted the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins Wednesday to clinch the Gateway Babe Ruth championship in the best of three series by a score of 5-3.

The Vineyard Gray entered the game needing just one more victory following an 18-1 win away at Yarmouth Monday. On Wednesday night,  playing in front of a partisan crowd at the “Shark Tank,” the Vineyard beat the Dolphins by the score of 5-3.

Pitcher Jack Sierputoski pitched a complete game three hit masterpiece, while center fielder Nick Bischoff lead the defense with four big putouts on running catches. Offensively, Bischoff and Sierputoski each had two hits and contributed with runs batted in. Six Vineyard stolen bases kept the pressure on the Dolphins, while Vineyard catcher Hunter Cleary limited the Dennis-Yarmouth baserunners to just one advanced base

Overall, it was a terrific season. After losing their first two games of the season, Gray responded by winning 20 of their next 21 games, culminating in the district championship and 20-3 overall record.

During the three playoff series, the Vineyard pitchers, Jack Sierputoski, Jake Howell and Harold Lawry combined on a 6-1 record, limiting the opposing teams to just 19 hits over 40 innings, in the six victories.
