Everyone is barking about it — dogs and dog lovers from across the Island are invited to march in the seventh annual Good Dog Goods Martha’s Vineyard Dog Parade, Sunday, August 9, at 6:30 pm in Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs.
Jake Corrou, a beautiful and friendly 4-year-old beagle, is this year’s Possible Dreams Grand Marshal of the Dog Parade. Jake will be proudly accompanied by his humans Stephen and Julia Corrou, with their children Mia and Stephen and his own cheering section. The Corrou family generously donated to Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Possible Dream Auction so Jake could have the privileged post of Grand Marshal.
Jake and friends will march through Ocean Park to the music of Ed Rogers and friends. There’s no dress code, no entry fee, no registration, nothing to do except enjoy a tail-wagging walk in the park to celebrate the dog days of summer and our good fortune to be in this special place with our beloved dogs.
Photographer Lisa Vanderhoop, known for her iconic Vineyard Seadogs Calendar, will capture the event. In honor of the late “Clifford” author Norman Bridwell, participants are encouraged to bring along their favorite Clifford stuffed animal for a special group photo.
All dogs and their owners and friends are welcome. Enjoy water, pick-up bags, and organic dog treats from Good Dog Goods in Oak Bluffs. There will also be a blessing of the dogs. Parade will take place rain or shine. The Vineyard Haven Band concert will immediately follow the parade.
