Edmund J. Bernard, a lifelong Island resident, died peacefully at his Oak Bluffs home on August 4, 2015. Edmund was born Sept. 25, 1930, to Joseph & Mary (Keene) Bernard. He was the beloved husband of Maggie (Goodick) Bernard.

Edmund proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in the battle of Chosin Reservoir and the battle of Boulder City, both in Korea. He started Bernard’s Greenhouse in 1971, and operated it successfully into his 80s. Edmund was a loving and thoughtful husband, father, and friend to many. He will be in the hearts of and deeply missed by his family.

Edmund is survived by his beloved wife Maggie Bernard, his son Robert Bernard of Oak Bluffs, his daughter Jennifer L. Bernard of Boston & Oak Bluffs, a brother Francis of Oak Bluffs, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Edmund was predeceased by his siblings Louise Leonardo, Johnny Bernard, and Beatrice House.

A service with full military honors offered by the veterans of Martha’s Vineyard will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 10:30 am in the Veteran’s Memorial Section of the Oak Grove Cemetery, Pacific Avenue, Oak Bluffs. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the VFW Hall, Towanticut Avenue, Oak Bluffs.
