West Tisbury Police Lt. Matt Mincone said police are investigating a breaking and entering at Alley’s General Store about 8:55 pm, Saturday night. The thief broke a window and entered from the porch of the well-known store on State Road in the heart of West Tisbury.
“Its kind of brazen to go in a front window,” Lieutenant Mincone said. Police responded to an alarm call within seven minutes but the thief had fled, he said.
The arrival of a cleaner likely scared him off. Lieutenant Mincone declined to describe what was taken, citing the ongoing investigation.
A short video posted by police on the department’s Facebook page shows the man entering the store and walking over to the cash register area. Although the image is of poor quality Lieutenant Mincone said anyone who knows the person is likely to recognize him.
