Who says women can’t be funny? Well, virtually nobody. Except possibly some seriously out-of-touch male chauvinists and, maybe, a few envious women.
This Friday, Oct. 2, a group of female entertainers intend to prove any disbelievers dead wrong. A Gallery in Oak Bluffs will host “Broad Humor,” an evening of nontraditional comedy featuring individual performances of music, poetry, video, and monologues.
Among the cast of characters are writer and monologuist Jenny Allen, whose essays and articles have appeared for years in many magazines, including the New Yorker, the New York Times, New York, Vogue, Esquire, More, Huffington Post, and two anthologies of humor; New York City–based actress/comedian/singer Katy Fabel, who has appeared in theatrical productions in West End, Off-Broadway and regional theaters, and who will present her unique brand of musical standup; and Gwyn McAllister, whose blog PickyourPoison.net features “poems for poetry haters and haters in general.”
A highlight of the evening will be a screening of a montage of clips from the new web series “All Downhill from Here,” presented by co-creators and stars Lynne and Brooke Adams.
“Broad Humor,” Friday, Oct. 2, at A Gallery, 8 Uncas Avenue, Oak Bluffs. Doors open at 7 pm, performance at 7:30. Admission will be on a donation basis. Libations will be served.
