The Martha’s Vineyard Museum will open a special holiday exhibit in the Spotlight Gallery, which is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Each Christmas, Ted Meinelt (1916–2014), a longtime art teacher at various Island schools, and his wife Polly (1913– 2008) decorated their 1713 home on South Road in Chilmark with a display of unique Christmas treasures, old and new, that they had created or discovered during the course of their lives. For Island children and adults alike, it was a joyous tradition to visit the Meinelts and enjoy their holiday decor — not only at Christmas, but on Easter, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. This exhibit will showcase what greeted visitors to the Meinelt home for years, including Christmas cards, art, ornaments Ted created, and more. For more information, visit mvmuseum.org.
