Poet’s Corner: The Whole of Us

0

By Jeffrey Agnoli

Only part of us

believes what can be seen

matters more than what is unseen

Only part of us

believes to mistrust others

is smarter than to trust others

Only part of us

believes weapons are more

powerful than wisdom

Only part of us

believes returning hate for hate

will ever make us safe

Only part of us

believes what we think

is more important than what we feel

Only part of us

is convinced our judgments and complaints

make the world a better place

Only part of us

believes there is substance to

what is now passed

Only part of us

believes cleverness counts

more than compassion

Only part of us

believes that doing surpasses

being, that noise trumps silence …

May these and all such parts

be healed in our loving hearts,

in the Whole of Us
