Joan M. (Duart) Andrews of Vineyard Haven died on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at Cape Cod Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 58.
Joan was the daughter of Joseph “Buster” and Hilda (King) Duart. Born on August 27, 1957, in Oak Bluffs, Joan was the fourth of six children. Joan married the love of her life, David G. Andrews Sr., on Oct. 4, 1975. Together they had two children, David G. Andrews Jr. and Christilynn Andrews. Joan was an avid knitter, and put her talents to work making beautiful sweaters and clothing for her children, and oftentimes donated her work to local charities and fundraisers.
Joan was blessed with a heart to love everyone who came into her life. Friends of her children, along with her nieces and nephews, were often found at her house just hanging out or looking to her for advice. Joan’s world revolved around providing child care for her grandsons, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as she watched them grow.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Hilda Duart, as well as by her brothers Michael and Peter Duart. She is survived by her loving husband, David G. Andrews Sr., her son David G. Andrews Jr. and his wife Janette Andrews of Edgartown, her daughter Christilynn Andrews of Vineyard Haven, her brother Joseph “Chuck” Duart III and his wife Dorothy Duart of Vineyard Haven, her sisters Karen Duart Murphy of Vineyard Haven, Brenda Duart of Vineyard Haven, her beloved grandsons David G. Andrews III and Christopher R. Chambers Jr., and her many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven on Dec. 23, 2015, officiated by Fr. Michael Nagle. Donations in Joan’s name can be made to The Red Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 600, Edgartown, MA 02539.
