Kathleen A. Chesk, formerly of South Deerfield and Oak Bluffs, died on Jan. 31, 2016. She was 72.
Kathy was a 1962 graduate of Frontier Regional High School in South Deerfield. Following her graduation, she worked as a secretary for the Northampton department of public works for approximately four years, then she moved briefly to New York.
In 1970, Kathy and her friends Pat and Gloria vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard. Shortly thereafter, she returned and made Martha’s Vineyard her home. She worked for Michael Donaroma as office manager at Donaroma’s Nursery and Landscaping in Edgartown. She also did private accounting for many businesses on-Island. In 1980, she bought her house in Oak Bluffs.
She loved her vacations to Jamaica, where she visited every year, until she retired in 1987 because of complications associated with multiple sclerosis.
She continued to live in Oak Bluffs until her mother, Jessie Chesk, died in June 2011. She then went to Bourne Manor Extended Care facility in Bourne, where she lived until she died.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, William G. and Jessie Chesk; her nephew William; and niece Paula Chesk. Kathy leaves behind her brother, William G. Chesk and partner Pat Budney of Safety Harbor, Fla.; niece Tammy (Chesk) and her husband Kevin and their daughters Maeve, Maura, and Molly O’Connor of Lakeville; and nephew Michael and his wife Maggie Chesk of Swanville, Maine; also her cousin, Cynthia Nickerson, and family.
