Janet M. (Searle) LaValley, daughter of the late John and Karen Searle of Edgartown, a native of Martha’s Vineyard, died on Oct. 26, 2015, after a long illness with cancer. She was 60 years old.
Mrs. LaValley, who resided in New Bedford with her loving husband Raymond of 41 years, was best known to her family and friends as Janie. A 1974 graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, she was part of the vocational health aide program for four years while attending high school.
Janet worked for many years for the Fall River curtain factory as a floor supervisor. She was a lover of Chihuahuas and cats, and was a member of the Order of Rainbow Girls on the Vineyard.
She is survived by three daughters, Christina Dominguez and her husband Kevin of Roanoke, Va., Jennifer LaValley of Fall River and her fiance James, and Rachel LaValley of New Bedford. Also surviving her are a granddaughter Kayla, and two brothers, Glenn and Kevin Searle, both of Edgartown. A niece, Tiffany of Groves, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on May 20 at noon at the Westside Cemetery in Edgartown. A potluck get-together will follow at the P.A. Club in Oak Bluffs. Gifts in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
